St. Helena, Wind-Diesel Hybrid Project
St. Helena is a remote island, till 2016 only accessible by boat. Supplying the diesel, needed for the generators to produce electricity, is giving risks, like piracy and unreliable suppliers. At the other side, electrifying the island by diesel is giving high costs.

Electricity Generation
St Helena''s use of renewable energy sources is already significantly higher than in the UK and most of the rest of Europe. We have made some amazing efficiency improvements. Primarily these are as a result of the renewable energy contribution.

Our current renewable energy sources
St Helena households and businesses have also adopted a wide range of energy saving measures, driven perhaps by the very high cost of electricity on the island (in 2014 it was up to £0.42p per KwH, depending on consumption). Double-glazing is, however, uncommon on St Helena - it is rarely cold.

ST HELENA ENERGY STRATEGY
A draft Energy Strategy has been developed for St Helena with the primary aim to increase the Island''s use of renewable energy, through a mixed model of harvesting natural resources, as well as supporting the use of greener products on the Island.

PRESS RELEASE Energy Delivery Plan
The Energy Delivery Plan provides a roadmap for phased delivery of improvements in the energy sector on St Helena, particularly to support plans for energy transition on St Helena. It supports the objective of reaching 80% electricity generation from renewable energy by 2027/28.
