Do you need a solar panel for a 4WD?

For us, the ultimate setup is a solar panel (or several) bolted to your 4WD that produces more than enough power to keep your battery healthy even over periods where you aren’t driving, or its overcast. Solar panels have become a very common accessory on a 4WD, especially if you travel off grid on a regular basis. Technology improvements have allowed us to take a fridge, inverter and even a coffee machine or microwave and power it almost entirely off a good battery system and solar panel.

Are fixed solar panels good for a 4WD?

You can either go for fixed solar panels, which are bolted to your 4WD, camper trailer or caravan and never move, or you can go for portable ones, which you pull out and plug in when you get to camp. There’s a huge number of pro’s and con’s to each setup, and in many cases its a good idea to have both options should you need it.
